i just went with what GAZ recomended, well i went softer on the rear to induce a little less oversteer but now im getting more used to the rear sliding around i might go harder at some point

fair enough, lee also seemed to agree with what olly had gone with so i will have ago at that to begin with.

as for rears will it matter if i dont have rear coilovers? Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

if you run it low the rear springs will go coilbound

To run lower you fit a shorter spring because the spring seats get closer together on the car and beam.

If you lower the car too much, there is no room for springs......

In the situation inbetween you might have room for springs, but find that when you compress then hard over a bump the coils of the spring touch each other, whereupon your spring is just a lump of steel and has no give and you lose grip.

People fit rear coilovers to allow them to run low without the springs touching coils.

On my nova I have various set of springs to cater for different tracks etc. I list the springs I have front and back.

Front:
285Lb 8" (wet)
310Lb 8" (new going to try these when it's rebuilt)

Rear:
200Lb 9" (wet)
350Lb 10" (bumpy tracks)
400Lb 8"
450Lb 10"Soft smooth new one to try.

(yes I have long rear springs, hopefully cut out the excessive 3 wheeled corners)

Bare in mind longer springs with preload will alter the poundage on the spring.
I don't think there is such thing as a definate for anyone! It's a case of picking other peoples brains and trying various springs.
I reckon on yours you should try something like a 300 front and 350 rear. Then see how it feels.

thanks for this mate, only just noticed you had added this.

we are looking at getting rear coilovers at some point too but as we have just bought the tb's they will be on the back burner for a short while.

once they are up and running and engine wise we are all good, wanting to get back to the getting it to handle as good as possible Thumbs Up

What does the read end feel like with such high poundage springs fitted? (400/450) ???

Ive got some short 400lb springs to try on the back of mine, but thinking they are just going to be way too stiff. I think they are actually your old springs! LOL

morning

my seat needs tracking up when i get some new tyres so i wanted to find somewhere that can fully adjust up and measure what our current set up is? this really is so i can then go back with the corsa for the low down on our current settings

is 'Hunter Pro-Align Wheel alignment' any good

when i phoned them they told me that they can check everything, so camber, castor and toe. but they told me i need to suppy the settings or they will simply set to factory..which is fine as i realise that i am not taking it to that cornering force place that chip went to with the vx220 with that Tv article

but in coventry i am yet to leave after having my tracking done and feel pleased with what they have done??

any opinons or toughts welcome

this is where i am thinking??

cheers Thumbs Up

They are as I sold them to ya:) It feels great, turn in was good and the back used to follow the front round. You will find it may lift off oversteer a bit more

Right I have the option of what spring poundage I would like on the new gaz coilovers, what would people recommend? Should I go with spannish's dry set up an look to add the wet set up later on??

Cheers

tbh, it's a trackday car! people take the whole thing waaay too seriously. You're kidding yourself if you think you're going to strip your coilovers to change the springs on the basis of a weather forecast 24 hours away for the few percent different its likely to make.

Just try and aim for a reasonable compromise. Look to your ride height to select dampers which give as much travel as possible. Leave space for bump stops, use the longest springs possible. Ideally the damper should hit the bump stop without the springs going coil bound. Get the geometry right and then just use it.

If I had spent ages setting up the car Id not be stripping it to go a few lbs either way on the spring rate!

Everything is a compromise, sacrafice a few percent in the dry for a few percent in the wet ie you might get away with more camber in the dry etc but you dont necessarily want to maximise this as it looses you contact patch in the wet where sidewall forces are lower.

Fair enough, that sounds better to me

What length springs should I go for if a can??

Cheers

That I cant help you with :P

Im on 190 front 260 rear on a ceonventional shock and spring setup and thats ok for the road, could be a lot stiffer on track though.

Speak to spanishfly, lee303, broster maybe and make an informed decision based on the extra weight of the corsa overall, and the engine in the front end. Also bear in mind if some of the cars you get infor about arent turreted that the spring base is closer to the beam pivot.

yeah, if you run the conventional setup really low you run out of room for springs so you move them out around the damper and then you can use the full travel till the wheels hit the arches, but you have to make room for them somehow hence the turrets.
