I was going through some N/F ratio's I have been using over the last couple of racing seasons and I found the best times ( speeds ) I did was using 100% toulene and I found an interesting discrepancy I had the fuel jets set up for a stoich of 14.7 (petrol) , wereas toluene is 11. something so I was actually running a lot leaner than I usually do and this got me thinking , the traction on "salt " is only about 40% of asphelt and there is always at least 17 % wheel spin at best ,so on the inital hit wheel spin is very great which would put very little load on the motor ,so this lean condition i believe would be benifical as the motor would not be able to burn a lot of fuel and keeping it leaner through out the run actually gave me a better speed , is this thinking flawed or am I on to something
I run a wet system with a N/F ratio around 5.5:1 but the toluene would put it at around 7:1

I'm out of my depth with different fuels, but one rule is rich for torque, lean for HP.
Ideally on a strip you'd start rich and end lean Wink

(anyone spotted another trick the Max can do ? Laughing )

Hawkwind

Because the mixture ratio is fixed on nitrous, it's only right over a narrow rpm range. That's why a rich mixture is better at low rpm to produce torque and why a lean mix is good for high rpm to produce peak bhp.

Your results are most likely due to the leaner setting producing more peak bhp over the high end rpm range.

The ideal solution to your quest, is a Maximiser set soft to avoid traction problems (and wasting nitrous) and then optimised to produce an initial rich mixture which then goes lean at the high end for the best of all worlds. Idea

Regards
